Annual Report to VSA
SALE SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION ANNUAL REPORT 1984/85
The highlight of a busy season for Sale Softball Association was undoubtedly our hosting of the Victorian Under 14 Championships at East Sale RAAF Base. A lot of hard work was put into these Championships by a small band of dedicated workers. They were suitably rewarded by the satisfaction of seeing everything run smoothly and successfully.
The Opening Ceremony, with the presentation of Life Membership to Arthur Allsopp, was a memorable occasion.
Coaching Director, Liz Wood's meet-the-coaches evening on Saturday was well received and of great benefit to those who attended.
We would like to thank all participating Associations for their co-operation before and during the tournament.
Another important event was our hosting of the A.S.F. Coaching Clinic for talented juniors from throughout Gippsland. The forty girls and their coaches who participated, gained much in Softball skills and knowledge; thanks to the enthusiastic and efficient efforts of Liz Wood and Sue Fairbanks.
The growth of our boys competition continues. A highlight for them was the opportunity to represent Sale in matches against West Gippsland at the Regional Championships. Hopefully, this will be the start of an annual event with all Gippsland Associations fielding boys teams.
We made an effort to get men involved in Softball by conducting a Men's Open Day. A keenly contested match was played between players from the RAAF and Gippsland Grammar School. A re-match was eagerly requested but as yet has not eventuated. We will continue our quest to involve men next season.
Our representative teams took part in State and Regional Championships at all age levels with the most successful being the Under 14 team which finished a creditable fourth at Sale. The young Under 17 team also turned in some pleasing performances at Werribee.
A major project for next season will be the updating of our Association uniforms.
In our local competition, we experimented successfully with having junior matches played both on Saturdays and Wednesdays so that their season was completed by Christmas.
