1994 - 95

Annual report to VSA

SALE SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION

The season has gone well with 6 ladies teams playing Saturday afternoons. Tuesday night mixed competition had 11 teams which made it possible for an A and B Grade finals.

Saturday mornings we had the children's competition consisting of:

10 sides for t-ball Prep - Grade 2

6 sides for t-ball Grade 3 - Grade 4

4 sides for t-ball Grade 5 - Grade 6

Our Primary Rep girls, under the guidance of Bev Beard, did well in the Victorian State Championships coming back victors 2nd season in a row.

The Primary Rep team, coached by Russell Booth, gained lots of experience, and maybe next season will see them get into the finals.

Sale held the Primary Regional Championships, with the Sale Boys winning the Championship.

Due to lack of qualified coaches we couldn't fill all the rep squads. We had plenty of enthusiastic boys wanting to play but unfortunately no one to coach.

During the off season we hope to get some courses up and running so as to be able to offer all rep sides a coach, umpires, scorers etc.

Our major aim this year was for a club house to be shared jointly by Cricket and Baseball, with the Sale Council putting forward 75% of the monies. As yet this has not eventuated and with the Council re-construction I fear that this may no longer be a priority for the Council.

With a new committee in this season some of the going has been hard. We weren't always sure of what to do or when to do it, but the experience we've gained, I am sure we'll see this committee in good stead next season.

Golden Era

Season 1994/95 was part of the "golden era" of softball in this region.

Though not quite reaching the heights of season 1993/94, with still close to 400 members, 37 teams and 7 representative teams at Victorian State Championships, the sport was still at its peak.
